Thread Count Claims on Bed Sheets Linens by Anthony Kristovich III
New research in Good Housekeeping is proof that what we have known all along can now be shared with consumers. Discounters are misleading the consumer using two and three ply yarns to get high thread count goods in their bedding sheet sets.
Shoppers All Over the United States are bombarded with labels and sales pitches on high thread count bed sheets. A new Good Housekeeping Institute tested the fibers in bed sheet sets from such discounters as Wal-Mart, Linens n’ Things, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Linen Source. The Good Housekeeping Institute is calling out retailers that mislabel height thread count sheets.
Good Housekeeping Institute discovered that certain brands inflate their thread counts by adding plies. A plies is a strand of thread that is actually a combination of several smaller, twisted fibers. These twisted fibers make their bed sheet count seem much higher than they really are. Many large chains and discounters that advertise high thread count on its packaging was up to three times higher than that of the fabric inside.
Any one who knows any thing about fine linens and bed sheets will tell you that its not necessarily how many threads that are in a square that makes a good quality bed sheet.
