Printing Techniques For Wedding Invites by Vistaprint webmaster
Wedding is a special occasion and the speciality and significance of the same should be reflected in everything you do or make. Then, why not to make special wedding invites for the guests as well? While deciding about the wedding invites, the knowledge about the different printing techniques can help you to judge which one is required by you. Engraving: This is the oldest form of printing method which makes use of a copper plate to be sandwiched between the paper on one side and the machine on the other. It gives the raised effect of the imprint on the front and the bruising effect on the back. These two effects are the hallmarks of this type of printing. This is used for some formal wedding invites or parties, and also when there is a big guest list.
Thermography: If you find some card which has raised prints from the front but is smooth from behind, then you can assume that the thermography method has been used for its printing. This method used heat to mix the printing ink with some resin powder to give the uplifted effect from the front of the card. This is a less expensive method than engraving and can be delivered fast.
Foil stamping: This method is similar to the engraved printing method. The copper plates are etched with the design from a film negative. The special mylar foil is applied to paper where the heated copper plate is stamped on the foil, making it stick to the surface. This method allows the flexibility in the use of different type styles and motifs. Paper with thick texture and grooves are most used for this printing process.
Letterpress: This is an expensive proposition. It makes use of the moving machine and the characters are pre-set on the machine itself. Therefore, this is not so flexible to use.
Offset printing: In this form of printing, an inked impression is made on the cylinder or plate of rubber and then transferred to the paper. The prints are flat. This is used for those textured papers which can not be produced via any of the first three methods mentioned.
Digital Printing: This printing makes use of the digitally rendered files which are directly sent to the high resolution digital printers without affecting the image quality. This is used mostly for light colour textured prints.
Embossing: The wedding invites can also be embossed with some monogram or for imprinting on the borders. This does not make use of the ink. It creates a visual 3-D effect.
